Red Trail — along the Baltic coast

approx. 19 km · starts by Willa Karmazyn

One of the most beautiful trails on Wolin Island — and conveniently for our guests, it starts right by Willa Karmazyn. You set off from the property through a beech forest up to Kawcza Góra with its viewpoint, then follow the Baltic shore eastwards — passing cliffs, boulder fields and Mount Gosań (the highest point of the Wolin cliffs).

Along the way it is worth detouring to the seaside village of Wisełka with its lakes Wisełka and Zatorek. The trail then leads to the automated Kikut lighthouse (from 1960) and finally to Lake Koprowo — the largest on the island. A great full-day hike straight from the property.

Blue Trail — lakes and history

approx. 26 km

This route also starts in Międzyzdroje. On foot or by tourist train you reach Wicko, with the historic V3 gun emplacement and a small museum in a former bunker. From there it is a short way to Turquoise Lake (Jezioro Turkusowe) near Wapnica — its striking colour comes from light reflecting off the chalky bed (the lake formed in a flooded limestone quarry).

The loop around the lake is best topped off with the climb to the Zielonka viewpoint. Most walkers return to Międzyzdroje from here, but the trail continues — through Lubin, Karnocice and Dargobądź — all the way to the town of Wolin.

Kawcza Góra

approx. 15–20 min walk from Willa Karmazyn

The nearest viewpoint to the property — a 61 m hill at the eastern edge of Międzyzdroje. At the entrance stands the distinctive Wolin National Park gate shaped like an upright fishing-boat prow. From the top, with its two large boulders, the view sweeps over the Baltic, the beach and, on a clear day, the German coast. You can walk back to town along the shore.

Gosań

approx. 4 km · highest cliff on the coast

Mount Gosań (95 m a.s.l.) is the highest hill on the Polish coast, by road no. 102. From the summit (about 400 m of path through old beech woods) you can see Międzyzdroje, Świnoujście and the German town of Ahlbeck. Remains of an artillery observation tower and bunkers survive here, and on an exceptionally clear day you can spot the wreck of a ship sunk in 1945 in the Baltic.

Zielonka

Landscape of the Year 1993/94

The view from Zielonka was named Landscape of the Year 1993/94 by Naturefriends International. It opens onto a sweeping panorama of the Szczecin Lagoon, the backwater delta of the Świna and Lake Wicko Wielkie — one of Europe's most important bird sanctuaries. You can also get here by the tourist road trains.

Piaskowa Góra

above Turquoise Lake

A viewpoint on the slope of a steep sand-and-chalk cliff above the southern shore of Turquoise Lake. From the top you can see the emerald water, the houses of Wapnica, the Wyżnica ridge and Lake Wicko Małe with part of the Świna backwater delta — one of the finest views in the whole park.

Wolin National Park Museum

approx. 10 min walk · great for a rainy day

The natural-history exhibits show the ecosystems of Wolin Island and their wildlife up close: white-tailed eagles, seals, deer, wild boar and Europe's largest land mammal — the European bison. There are five exhibition halls (about 900 m²), a geology and ethnography display, and free audio guides in Polish, English and German (also for children, with audio description).

Opening hours (approx.): 1 May–30 Sep 9:00–17:00 (except Mon); 1 Oct–30 Apr 9:00–15:00 (except Sun and Mon). Tickets (approx.): standard 6 zł, reduced 4 zł. Please check current hours and prices before visiting.

European Bison Enclosure

approx. 25 min walk / 5 min by car · for families

One of the most popular family attractions in the area. The enclosure covers 28 ha and the animals can be watched from viewing terraces. The first bison were brought here in 1976 from Borki and Białowieża; today most of the herd was born on site. Besides bison you can also see wild boar, deer and white-tailed eagles — including animals under permanent veterinary care.

Access: from ul. Leśna or Zwycięstwa; by car from road no. 102 (the „Kwasowo” car park). Opening hours (approx.): 1 May–30 Sep 10:00–18:00 (except Mon); 1 Oct–30 Apr 8:00–16:00 (except Sun and Mon). Tickets (approx.): standard 6 zł, reduced 4 zł.

Lake Czajcze

approx. 6 km, Warnowo

One of the most beautiful lakes in the park — the second largest on the island (after Koprowo), with a distinctive horseshoe shape. The peninsula jutting into it was an island just 160 years ago and, in the Middle Ages, sheltered the people of nearby strongholds, as surviving defensive ramparts show. A paradise for birdwatchers: mute swans, herons, grebes and many ducks.

Lake Żółwińskie

A picturesque ribbon lake near the village of Żółwino, with reed-fringed shores. Archaeological work nearby uncovered traces of a Lusatian-culture cemetery from the Bronze/Iron Age transition — a treat for history lovers.

Slavs & Vikings Open-Air Museum

Wolin · festival in July/August

An open-air museum on the bank of the river Dziwna — a dozen-odd reconstructions of early-medieval Wolin: 27 huts, two gates with ramparts and a harbour wharf. At the turn of July and August it hosts the colourful Festival of Slavs and Vikings, one of the largest events of its kind in Europe. A great day out with children. More: jomsborg-vineta.com.

Fort Gerharda and the Underground City

Świnoujście

Fort Gerharda stands beside the tallest lighthouse in Europe and the longest stone breakwater; it houses the Museum of Coastal Defence. The Underground City is a network of corridors almost a kilometre long, with shelters hidden beneath the coastal dunes. More: fort-gerharda.pl.

Eureka Planetarium

Promenade · evenings, with children

A planetarium on the Promenade, on the top floor of the Wax Museum next to Kino Eva — within walking distance of Willa Karmazyn. On a 7-metre dome, digital projectors display three-dimensional images of the cosmos; you can not only watch the stars but also „travel” through galaxies and visit the planets of the Solar System.

Wax Museum

Promenade · since 1998

On the Promenade since 1998. It began with 13 figures of Polish actors — including Katarzyna Figura, Cezary Pazura, Bogusław Linda, Krystyna Janda and Daniel Olbrychski — as well as historical figures such as Lech Wałęsa, Pope John Paul II and Józef Piłsudski. Some of them took part in creating their own figures. An attraction for the whole family, a few minutes from the beach.

Kino Eva

An intimate cinema open since 2009. The auditorium seats 198, including special couples' boxes — perfect for an evening for two after a day on the beach. Programme: kino-eva.com.pl.

Boat cruises

along the coast

Boat cruises set off from Międzyzdroje along the coast, including to the seaside towns on the German side. A pleasant way to spend the day and see the Wolin cliffs from the water. Details and timetable: adler-schiffe.de.
